Seriously? A Dog and a Heroic Plunge?
Right, because that’s exactly what our tax dollars are for. Lets just pause for a moment and applaud the sheer brilliance of a New Jersey police officer who felt compelled to swan dive into an icy lake – risking hypothermia and potentially his own life – to retrieve a dog. A dog.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like dogs. Theyre fluffy. They wag their tails. But are they worth endangering a trained professional for? Apparently, yes! Because apparently, the narrative of heroic rescue is more important than common sense or preventative measures.
Did anyone stop to consider that maybe, just maybe, people shouldn’t be letting their pets wander onto demonstrably frozen lakes? Was there a public service announcement about “Don’t Be A Fool, Stay Off The Ice”? No! Instead we get this…this spectacle of aquatic bravery.
And the gear! Specialized rescue gear! Because rescuing Fido requires more than just a strong arm and a healthy disregard for personal safety. It needs specialized equipment. Im picturing tiny doggie life vests next.
Seriously, folks, let’s redirect this enthusiasm towards ensuring people use their brains instead of relying on police officers to perform increasingly ridiculous feats of…well, I don’t even know what to call it. A publicity stunt? A cry for attention? All I know is, my property taxes are going towards retrieving canines from frozen bodies of water now, and frankly, Im not thrilled.
