Another Manatee Rescue? Seriously?

Honestly, do we really need another heartwarming story about a rescued manatee mother and calf? Because Im just overflowing with sentimentality here. Apparently, these gentle giants – who, let’s be clear, contribute to the ongoing algae blooms choking Florida waterways – needed rescuing from a river. A RIVER! You know, their natural habitat?

And of course, they had to be whisked away to SeaWorld Orlando for “rehabilitation.” Because thats exactly what these creatures need: more human intervention in their lives. I’m sure the tanks are just as enriching and natural as a murky river teeming with… well, whatever it is manatees eat now, probably toxic algae.

It’s just endlessly predictable, isnt it? A little tragedy, some manufactured emotion, and then a feel-good ending involving captivity. Were all supposed to be so moved by this display of environmental stewardship while conveniently ignoring the fact that we paved over their homes, polluted their food sources, and generally made their lives miserable in the first place.

I’m sure the PR team is thrilled with the positive press. Meanwhile, I’ll just be here, quietly wondering if were rescuing these animals or simply creating a really expensive, taxpayer-funded photo opportunity. Its just… fantastic. Really.
