Another Michelangelo? Really?

Honestly, at this point, Im expecting someone to announce the Mona Lisa was painted by a particularly talented chimpanzee. Apparently, we now have an “independent researcher” – bless their heart – claiming a rather unremarkable marble bust of Christ in some dusty Roman church is actually a lost Michelangelo. A lost one! As if the man wasn’t already prolific enough. Did he really need to be sculpting anonymously in his spare time while simultaneously revolutionizing art history?

Its always the same story, isn’t it? Something vaguely resembling a Renaissance style pops up, and suddenly some self-proclaimed expert with zero credentials is shouting “Michelangelo!” from the rooftops. Its like spotting a pigeon and declaring it an extinct dodo bird. The evidence, I’m told, is in the subtle nuances of the carving. Subtle to whom, exactly? To someone who has spent decades studying his work? Probably not.

This isn’t about genuine scholarship; this is about attention. Its about grabbing headlines with a sensational claim and basking in the fleeting glow of internet notoriety. I swear, if we keep finding lost Michelangelos, pretty soon well be claiming my cat sculpted David from a ball of yarn. The whole thing is utterly exhausting.
