Selling Our Soul, One Waterfall at a Time
Seriously? A waterfall? A spectacular waterfall, cherished by Oregonians for longer than most of us have been alive, is now on Redfin? Apparently, natural beauty isnt what it used to be – it’s an asset to be liquidated. Because that’s exactly what this feels like: a blatant and utterly predictable symptom of our times.
I mean, lets just normalize selling off the things that make Oregon Oregon. Forget about preserving wild spaces; let’s just slap a price tag on them and see who has the deepest pockets. Some developer will swoop in, promise “sustainable luxury cabins” nestled amongst the mist (because of course), and pave over paradise for a profit. Theyll probably even put up a plaque boasting about responsible stewardship while simultaneously charging $50 just to look at the water cascading down rocks that were once freely accessible.
It’s just… breathtakingly predictable, isn’t it? We celebrate the rugged individualism of the Pacific Northwest, then turn around and auction off its defining features to the highest bidder. This isnt progress; its a slow, agonizing erosion of everything we claim to value. I suppose next up will be Mount Hood. Dont be surprised.
