The Peak of California Ingenuity (and Stupidity)

Seriously? A jacket? A jacket constitutes a carpool passenger now? Apparently, in Los Angeles County, it does! I swear, sometimes I think this state is actively trying to disprove the existence of common sense. We’ve devolved beyond avocado toast and crippling housing costs; were now rewarding vehicular fraud with barely concealed amusement.

This individual – lets call them The Genius – thought they could outsmart traffic laws by strategically placing a garment in their car seat. A jacket! As if the officer was going to scrutinize fabric composition and declare, “Aha! This is not a living, breathing human being!” I’m picturing the whole scene: The Genius, smugly waving at fellow drivers while clutching their ill-gotten advantage, blissfully ignorant of how utterly ridiculous they appear.

And the best part? It probably worked for a while. People are so busy complaining about the weather and fighting over parking that someone got away with this level of blatant absurdity. This isn’t cleverness; its an insult to everyone who actually follows the rules, the people who genuinely share rides to ease congestion.

I can just feel my blood pressure rising. It’s a testament to how far we’ve fallen when a jacket is considered equivalent to a person. Someone needs to revoke driving privileges for sheer audacity alone. A jacket! Really?
