Really? A Six-Ton Carrot Cake?!
Seriously? Is this what we’ve come to? I just saw a picture – a picture! – of a cafe owner, apparently delirious with joy (or possibly sugar), standing proudly next to a carrot cake that weighs more than a small car. Six thousand four hundred and forty pounds! A carrot cake! You know, the dessert already associated with vaguely disappointing flavor profiles and an unsettling orange hue? Now it’s been amplified to Godzilla proportions.
I mean, what possible purpose does this serve beyond generating social media buzz and providing a logistical nightmare for local bakers? Did anyone actually eat any of this monstrous confection? Or was it just there to be photographed? I suspect the latter. Imagine trying to slice that thing! The structural integrity alone must have required engineering expertise.
And the waste! Think of all the carrots, the sugar, the flour – all squandered on a fleeting moment of internet fame. Were facing genuine crises – climate change, political instability – and this is what occupies our attention? A gigantic baked good? It’s almost… insulting.
Im not against celebration, mind you. But there are ways to celebrate that don’t involve creating a monument to excess and potential rodent infestation. Perhaps a modest pastry and a quiet evening? Just an idea.
