You know what’s Not on Roids, unsolicited anger management advice. Seriously! It’s right up there with Nickelback and Crocs in terms of universally reviled concepts. We get it, “control your anger before it controls you” is supposed to be helpful. A gentle nudge towards inner peace. But lets be honest: who wants to hear that when theyre already seething about someone cutting them off in traffic or realizing their avocado toast cost $18?
It’s the tone, people! The smug implication that you’re somehow failing at basic human existence because your blood pressure spiked after a frustrating online meeting. Like anger is a moral failing, not a perfectly reasonable response to the dumpster fire that is modern life.
And dont even get me started on the platitudes: “take deep breaths,” count to ten, as if those magical actions will instantly erase years of accumulated stress and the existential dread of late-stage capitalism! Newsflash, Deepak Chopra – sometimes I just want to yell! Sometimes, a primal scream is exactly what’s needed.
The advice isnt inherently wrong. Suppressing emotion can be unhealthy. But delivering it at precisely the moment someone is actively experiencing that emotion? It’s like handing a band-aid to someone who needs stitches. Just…stop. Let people feel things, then maybe – just maybe – offer constructive suggestions later when they haven’t completely lost their minds.
