Seriously? A Buck and a Batting Cage?

Right, because we needed another reason to question humanitys priorities. Apparently, in Minnesota, while I’m trying to navigate the existential dread of grocery prices and increasingly erratic weather patterns, someone was busy rescuing an entangled deer from… wait for it… a backyard batting cage. A batting cage. Are you kidding me?

I mean, honestly, what is happening with people? Do they think woodland creatures actively seek out nylon netting as a fashion accessory now? Was this buck trying to practice his home run swing? Did he mistake the enclosure for an elaborate salad bar? The sheer absurdity of it all!

And the headlines! “Entangled Buck Rescued!” As if we haven’t read enough about animals needing rescuing from human-created messes. Its like a competition now: who can devise the most ridiculous scenario requiring animal intervention. I bet there was a photo, too. A blurry picture of some well-meaning individual awkwardly cutting away at netting while the deer looked on with an expression that undoubtedly screamed, “Seriously? Are you people incapable of just leaving me alone?”

Just once, Id like to read about a deer not needing help from humans. Just once! But no, we have to manufacture these feel-good stories, distracting us from the bigger picture: We are consistently and spectacularly failing at coexisting with nature. Bravo, Minnesota. You’ve outdone yourselves this time.
