A Continent, Mastered by a Millennial: Seriously?
Right. Let’s talk about this momentous occasion. Apparently, a twenty-year-old has shattered some sort of world record for accurately labeling a map of Europe. A map! Like, the thing we all learned in elementary school, possibly even before we could tie our shoes. Now, Im not denying the individual’s skill, presumably they possess an impressive geographical recall ability. But must we celebrate this with such fanfare? Are we truly out of things to applaud?
I mean, really think about it. Were patting someone on the back for demonstrating a baseline competency most adults should already have. It’s not astrophysics. Its not composing a symphony. Its knowing that Belarus is Belarus. And this deserves a record?
It feels like weve reached peak absurdity. The bar has been lowered so dramatically, any remotely impressive feat – even the accurate placement of Luxembourg – warrants breathless news reports and celebratory banners. Where’s the challenge in mastering something that should be relatively straightforward? This just reinforces my suspicion that we are collectively losing our minds, desperately searching for novelty where there is none. Someone go break a record for correctly identifying socks as footwear. That would genuinely surprise me.
