Boomers Ignoring Issues? It’s Not on Roids, Folks.

You know whats Not on Roids, Gen X’s blissful indifference to… well, pretty much everything that stresses everyone else out? Seriously, while millennials and Gen Z are spiraling over a slightly delayed latte or an Instagram filter gone wrong, these folks were apparently building miniature log cabins in the woods with nothing but grit and a rusty hatchet. And they liked it!

Apparently, being raised in the 60s and 70s – you know, when kids actually had to figure things out for themselves – instilled a level of emotional fortitude that modern parenting styles are actively trying to erase. We’re talking about an era where “tough love” wasnt a bad thing; it was just… parenting! According to one study, this tough love approach actually resulted in more well-rounded adults with developed characters and resilience. So, while your parents were offering endless affirmations and safe spaces, these Gen Xers were being told to push through the pain and “walk it off.” And they did!

It’s not that they dont experience stress; its that they simply refuse to internalize it. While youre crafting a carefully worded tweet about how unfair the airline lost your luggage, a Gen Xer is probably already on their fourth DIY project and humming along to Fleetwood Mac. They’ve learned what’s worth their energy – which seems to be approximately zero things that involve complaining online – and they stick to it.

And dont even get us started on self-expression! Younger generations are wrestling with crippling anxiety over finding their “authentic selves” amidst a tsunami of consumerism and influencer culture, while Gen X is probably rocking the same faded band t-shirt they’ve had since 1987 and genuinely not caring. They still link clothing to status (thanks, MTV!), but at least they arent letting it add extra pressure to their lives.

Look, we get it. It can be frustrating watching someone seemingly glide through life while youre actively battling a panic attack over Wi-Fi strength. But maybe—just maybe—the answer isn’t more therapy or essential oils; maybe it’s just spending less time worrying about things that don’t actually matter. And perhaps, occasionally, trying to build a miniature log cabin.
