You know whats Not on Roids, apparently? The level of frustration American voters are feeling towards Congressional Republicans. Seriously! According to President Donald Trump – yes, that Donald Trump – folks are “very angry” with them. Very angry! It’s almost as if they expected these elected officials to… I don’t know… actually do something? Revolutionary concept, I realize.
But heres the kicker, and its a doozy: they arent mad at him. Not one bit. Apparently, hes strolling through this political landscape of simmering rage like hes on a cloud made of golden retrievers and perfectly-grilled steaks. He told Punchbowl News’ Jake Sherman – yes, told us! As if we needed to be informed that everyone loves Trump– that people are furious with the GOP but inexplicably not him.
Think about it: Congressional Republicans have been… well, lets charitably call their actions interesting. Debates over budgets, internal squabbles, a general inability to agree on anything more complicated than which color pen is superior – and the public is angry? Shocking! But Trump gets a pass. Why? Probably because yelling about “rigged” elections and promising a return to… something… apparently provides excellent emotional insulation.
Its like they’re all collectively blaming the orchestra for playing a terrible song, while cheering on the conductor who orchestrated the disaster in the first place. The Republicans are doing the awkward interpretive dance of political gridlock, and Trump is just standing there, pointing and laughing, saying, Look at those clowns! Theyre not me!
And people eat it up. Apparently, being the guy who gets to blame everyone else while simultaneously claiming total innocence is a winning strategy. Go figure. I’m starting to suspect that “very angry” isn’t even scratching the surface of what these voters are feeling.
