Perth Zoo confirms “Javan gibbon on the loose” incident – panic ensues!

In breaking news, the Perth Zoo in Western Australia confirmed that a Javan gibbon had escaped its enclosure for a whole 30 minutes on Thursday morning. The cheeky primate, known for its amazing agility, managed to swing its way out of the enclosure, leaving both visitors and staff in a state of shock.

One eyewitness reported seeing the escaped gibbon making its way through the zoo at breakneck speed, dodging frenzied zookeepers who were frantically trying to catch him. “It was like watching a scene from the Jungle Book,” said one visitor, who wished to remain anonymous. “The gibbon was swinging from tree to tree, evading the zookeepers’ nets like some kind of superhero. It was amazing!”

It wasn’t long before the incident had gone viral on social media, with panicked Perth residents taking to Twitter to express their concerns. “I’ve barricaded myself in my house, just in case the gibbon comes my way,” tweeted one terrified resident. “I heard they can be quite vicious.”

However, while the escape may have caused some temporary chaos, the Perth Zoo was quick to reassure the public that there was never any danger to visitors or the public at large. “Our zookeepers are highly trained professionals who are well equipped to deal with situations like this,” said a zoo spokesperson. “We take the safety of both our animals and visitors very seriously, and our staff responded quickly and efficiently to contain the situation.”

In fact, the gibbon was safely back in its enclosure within 30 minutes of the escape, thanks to the quick thinking of the zoo’s expert staff. “Our team used a combination of nets, treats and gentle coaxing to entice the gibbon back to safety,” said the spokesperson. “He seemed to realise he’d made a mistake and willingly went back into his enclosure. We’re happy to report that he’s safe and sound, and back to his usual antics.”

Despite the relatively minor nature of the incident, the Perth Zoo has faced criticism from some quarters for allowing the gibbon to escape in the first place. “This is a clear example of the inadequate security measures in place at the zoo,” said animal welfare activist, Jane Smith. “If a gibbon can escape, what’s to stop a more dangerous animal from doing the same? The Perth Zoo needs to address these issues urgently.”

However, others have pointed out that the occasional escape is just part of life at a zoo. “Some animals are just too curious and playful for their own good,” said one visitor, who witnessed the escape. “I don’t blame the zoo for what happened. In fact, it made my visit even more exciting!”

All in all, it seems the escaped gibbon has provided some much-needed excitement at the Perth Zoo. While there are undoubtedly lessons to be learned from the incident, it’s heartening to know that both the zoo’s visitors and its animals are in safe hands. And who knows… maybe the gibbon will inspire some budding primatologists of the future!
