You know whats Not on Roids, just pure, unadulterated comic book frustration? Spider-Man’s supporting cast! Seriously, folks, Peter Parker attracts hate like a web to… well, everything. Its not his fault hes beloved, but it is the reason his friends and romantic interests are treated like punching bags for disgruntled fans. Lets dive into the seven most hated, ranked by sheer volume of internet rage.
First up: Ben Reilly. Oh, Ben. The clone who genuinely thought he WAS Peter Parker! This is where things went horribly wrong with The Clone Saga, a storyline so universally despised it practically redefined “bad comic.” People felt cheated – their entire understanding of Peter’s history rendered meaningless when Marvel pulled the “surprise, you’re not him!” card. And even though Ben tries to be heroic now, Peters lingering resentment (and by extension, fan resentment) just won’t let go.
Then theres Carlie Cooper. Poor Carlie! She was basically collateral damage in the whole One More Day debacle – where Spider-Man traded his marriage and history with Mary Jane to Mephisto for Aunt May’s life. Talk about a raw deal. Fans just couldnt buy into her as Peter’s new love interest, especially after MJ was erased from existence. Carlie became the target of pent-up frustration, suffering from a bland personality and highlighting how irreplaceable Mary Jane truly was.
And let’s not forget Debra Whitman. Remember when Spider-Man decided to gaslight someone? Yeah, thats Debra. She suspected Peter was Spidey, and instead of handling it maturely, he drove her mad! Seriously? It’s bad enough the creators made her unlikeable; actively damaging a persons mental health isnt heroic behavior, folks!
The other contenders include… well, let’s just say they all contribute to the collective sigh of exasperation that accompanies anything Spider-Man related these days.
