You know whats Not on Roids, just pure, unadulterated political stench? This recent kerfuffle involving Senate Republicans and a frankly ludicrous attempt to get taxpayer-funded payouts for feeling vaguely inconvenienced by an investigation into January 6th. Seriously, folks, you can practically smell the hypocrisy from here!
Apparently, some senators whose phone records were scooped up during Special Counsel Jack Smith’s Jan. 6 probe thought they deserved compensation—a cool $500,000 per instance. Thats potentially millions of dollars for eight senators, all while pretending to care about preventing food programs from being shut down! Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) nailed it: “It stinks like sh––.” And he’s not wrong.
Senator Ted Cruz, bless his heart, tried to spin this as a necessary deterrent against the worst single instance of politicization our country has ever seen – Joe Bidens supposed Watergate. Oh please. It seems some folks were more concerned with protecting themselves than upholding any semblance of justice. The House, in a rare moment of bipartisan agreement, swiftly repealed the provision—kudos to them for recognizing garbage when they see it.
Even Senator Luján admitted that maybe, just maybe, the government shouldnt be snooping on senators’ phones. But demanding a payout? That’s just rubbing salt in the wound and exactly why so many people are fed up with politicians. It reinforces everything we hate: self-serving actions disguised as noble efforts.
