You know whats Not on Roids, apparently? Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Seriously? This guy made Batman! He gave us Inception! And now he’s tackling Homer, and the internet is… throwing digital tomatoes. It’s baffling. Utterly baffling.
Lets be clear: critics are eating this film up. Laudatory, they say. Overwhelmingly positive, they gush. But try telling that to the hordes of people furiously mashing the “dislike” button on the YouTube trailer. We’re talking a tsunami of negativity, folks! A digital rebellion against…epic poetry?
Whats going on? Well, apparently it boils down to casting. Oh, the casting. It seems some viewers are having a conniption fit about historical accuracy and representation in Nolan’s adaptation. Are we supposed to believe Odysseus was six-foot-five with suspiciously modern eyebrows? I dont know! But evidently, someone cares deeply enough to register their displeasure in an aggressively public format.
The irony is glorious. Despite the online outcry – which, let’s be honest, feels a little performative at this point – ticket demand is so high its reportedly crashing booking apps. People want to see this thing! They’re fighting for digital seats like they’re battling Cyclopses! The sheer hypocrisy of simultaneously trashing the trailer and scrambling to secure tickets is… something else.
And honestly, isnt a little controversy good? It means people are engaged. They’re talking about it. They care. Though I suspect some folks just enjoy being contrary. Everyone likes it? Must be terrible! That sort of thing.
Ultimately, the success or failure of The Odyssey rests with general audiences on July 17th. Will the internets collective grumble sway them? Or will they discover, as the critics seem to already have, that Nolan has once again delivered a spectacle worthy of the big screen? We’ll see. Just try not to break the internet in the meantime.
